Check Claude Code's 5-hour and weekly limits
See it before a limit stops your work — the built-in way, and keeping it in the menu bar.
Inside Claude Code
Type /usage in a session to see how much of the 5-hour and weekly limits you have used and when they reset. If you use a status line, the JSON your status-line script receives carries the same numbers under rate_limits.
But you have to open a session and type it each time, and with several sessions or several AI tools it's hard to see at a glance.
Hit a limit? It picks up after the reset
When Claude Code hits its 5-hour limit, it waits in the open session and continues the task on its own once the limit resets — but if the Mac sleeps for more than about 30 minutes in between, it waits for you to press Enter instead. Lidnight notices the limit stop through its hook and keeps the Mac awake until the reset (up to 5 h 15 min), so the run carries on while you sleep.
A weekly limit that resets more than a day out isn't waited for by Claude Code, and Codex doesn't continue on its own after a limit stop. From Lidnight 1.7.51, those tasks can pick up too: after the reset Lidnight sends a one-line “please continue” (via Claude Code's official session messaging, or Codex's official codex queue). Choose per AI with the “Continue/Paused” pill on the waiting row or in Settings › Agents; “Paused” also stops Claude Code's own automatic continue.
